Eliciting Student Ideas
To me part of this goal is eliciting students ideas and seeing where students are at. This digs down deep into students understanding and allows you to get to know your students. A way I like to elicit student ideas is through a KWL chart. Before I begin teaching I want to find out what misconceptions my students have, what background knowledge they have, but also what interests they have about the topic. Sometimes using a KWL chart is not a good way to see where each individual student is at but it does give insight to the class as a whole. As I was practicing eliciting student ideas this was a tool I used. On the board I kept track of which student offered the information to our chart.
